Starting pay of $38.23/ per hour (as per collective bargaining agreement) per hour with competitive benefits that let you see the world
Key Responsibilities:
As an H-VAC Technician you will work in a fast-paced San Francisco Maintenance Operations Center. The Technician plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. The Technician performs all work functions specified in The Statement of Work for any particular contract, including:
- Monitors HVAC systems and operations. Conducts preventative maintenance in accordance with established schedules.
- Includes test runs, repairs and logging equipment.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and evaluates code compliance involving electrical installations, modifications, and HVAC maintenance.
- Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components of the system.
- Orders new HVAC parts, supplies and equipment.
- Maintains appropriate inventories.
- Responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining all HVAC Systems.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Uses skill and care in the use of tools and materials used in the refrigeration and electrical trade.
- Supervises UPS Units (Battery back-up power/Test/monitor/log/respond to problems)
Technicians must be flexible to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority.
Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 and $.58 cents per hour for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment. There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues.

What’s needed to succeed:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED or education equivalent.
- Minimum 1-3 years of Commercial/Industrial HVAC repair / maintenance experience or technical school education
- Must possess a valid state issued driver's license
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications, codes, electrical formulas, and handbooks.
- Ability to use various testing devices related to the electrical and mechanical trades
- Universal Refrigerant Handling Certificate (HVAC Universal License)
- EPA Universal Certificate
- Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills
- Acceptable driving record
- Good verbal and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills
- Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull. Mobility requirements including lifting, carrying, crawling, and ladder climbing
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- In addition to passing United’s background investigation and pre-employment testing, candidate must be able to clear a criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position.
- Must be available to work any shift that is assigned to you within a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation which can include late nights, early hours, weekends and holidays. Employees may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority.
