Manager, Engineering / Maintenance
Position Objective:
To provide leadership, technical expertise, direction, and guidance for planning, supporting, and executing daily operations for the maintenance and plant engineering department. To ensure all regulatory code activities are compliant with Federal, State, and other related regulatory codes and to make sound business decisions in supporting the hospital’s mission; will support the hospital’s vision to be a leader in maintaining a safe and functioning facility for patient care.
Essential Job Duties:
- Assists with the development of operating and capital budgets and ensures proper utilization of available resources to complete work in a timely manner with a focus on quality, safety and fiscal stewardship.
- Provide guidance for frontline leadership and indirect oversight of staff orientation, competency assessment, skills training, and performance improvement.
- Monitor contracts for compliance and cost controls costs; monitor general expenditures; perform quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications.
- Establish effective means of communication with staff, peers, and all key stakeholders.
- Assist in all phases of renovations as needed to include scheduling, cost monitoring, and code compliance.
- Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the department.
- Oversee all Joint Commission Life Safety inspections, testing, and maintenance and Environment of Care requirements to ensure compliance.
- Assist with the supervision of Life safety and other audits to ensure that the physical environment meets established quality and applicable safety.
- Oversee and monitor the preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including the computerized maintenance management system (CCMS) in accordance with established standards; interprets and analyzes CMMS data to ensure efficient and cost-effective utilization of resources; estimates equipment repair and replacement costs.
- Ensures safe and proper operation of utility systems and equipment including but not limited to HVAC, boilers, chillers, electrical distribution, medical gas, plumbing, buildings and grounds; oversees repairs and replacements as necessary.
The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in a healthcare setting and or five years’ experience working in the management of a Facilities Engineering Department.
Required License/Certifications:
- Preferred CHFM
- Must have a valid Maryland driver's license and a driving record with no more than two (2) points.
